Crawler

About our site-audit crawler

If you found this page in your server logs, a visitor identifying itself as a Code & Canvas site-audit bot looked at your website. This is what it does.

The crawler sends this User-Agent:

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_7) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/126.0 Safari/537.36 (+site-audit bot; contact: https://codeandcanvas.eu/bot)

Who runs it

Code & Canvas, a one-person web and brand studio in Alkmaar, the Netherlands (KvK 99849526).

What it does

It fetches the homepage of a business website. If no email address is on it, it tries up to nine common contact pages (such as /contact, /over-ons, /kontakt, /impressum and /about), one after another, and stops at the first address it finds. It also requests /favicon.ico when the homepage declares no icon.

It runs one Google PageSpeed Insights test (mobile) on the homepage. That request comes from Google, not from us.

How often

Once a week, in batches of up to 200 websites, with one request at a time. Each website is looked at once, not monitored.

What we record

From the public listing: business name, website, public business email address, phone number, city, category, public rating and number of reviews.

From your website: page speed, whether it uses https and a mobile viewport, which languages it offers, whether it has a title, meta description, social image, favicon and structured data, and the page weight.

Where the list comes from

Public Google Maps business listings, collected through the service Apify.

Who we email

Businesses in the Netherlands. In Belgium only companies (legal persons) at role addresses such as info@. Never businesses in Germany.

How to make it stop

Reply "stop" to any email from us, or write to jonah@codeandcanvas.nl. Your domain goes on a permanent suppression list: no more crawling, no more email. Requests are processed within 30 minutes.
